Port Douglas State School students are involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities.

Many students attend District, Trinity Coast North and Peninsula sporting events and have been selected to participate in these teams. Students also participate in school district sporting gala days biannually.

Each year students participate in a variety of academic programs or events such as Reader's Cup, Queensland Virtual STEAM academy programs (QVSA), Gifted Global Green Project and Douglas District Spelling Bee for example.

Throughout the year, students also participate in fun activities either as a school event or individually within their classes. These include whole school fun events such as Science on the Oval, Book Week Parade, Fun Fridays and whole school performances such as Shake and Stir Theatre Company.
