Starting school is an exciting but also potentially stressful time for children and families alike. It is one of the key transition points during childhood. All such transitions are known to be times of particular vulnerability for young children, when earlier developmental and social progress is placed at risk. A successful transition to school is important for all children.
At Port Douglas State School we have developed a variety of transition activities and opportunities for children and their families to make the transition to Prep as successful as possible. We believe that positive relationships between teachers, students and families assists with transition, and work tirelessly on developing these for all incoming students.
Stay and Play mornings are organised for future Prep students towards the end of the year where students and families can introduce their child to primary school and interact with our wonderful Prep teachers. Our school also liaises with local Early Years Learning organisations to identify future enrolments and begin to build connections with families to provide a smooth transition into our school.
